Domestic Violence

The Lyons Police Department has a zero tolerance policy towards domestic violence.

If an officer is called to the scene of a domestic violence call, the officer will investigate the crime and look for evidence. The officer will interview and make judgment and credibility assessments of the witnesses and parties involved in the crime. If an officer finds an act of domestic violence, the officer is mandated by policy and by state law to make an arrest for domestic battery.

Even if the victim of the crime does not want to press criminal charges, the officer will sign the complaints for domestic battery. The offender arrested will be held for a bond hearing at the Cook County Courthouse. This allows the victim of the domestic violence the opportunity to file for an order of protection at the bond hearing of the offender.
